omega-cfd

OMEGA-CFD is a novel computational fluid dynamics software for simulating transient fluid-structure interaction problems. It is based on a coupled large eddy simulation/vortex panel method and is being developed under funding from an NSF SBIR research grant. OMEGA-CFD is designed to speed up and simplify the use of CFD so that industrial users can focus on their innovative designs. CFD users can run our cloud-based CFD model directly from the CAD geometry in a reasonable time frame without spending a lot of time generating body-fitted grids or building/testing prototypes. Our implicit LES approach also allows users to simulate turbulent flows without any heuristic turbulence models.

APPLICATIONS INCLUDE

  • Investigation of the flight dynamics of newer urban mobility vehicles such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft
  • Evaluation of the effect of active/passive flow control devices on the performance of re- newable energy devices (wind turbines, hydrokinetic devices)
  • Prediction of air flow over complex geometries (cars, buildings, bridges)
  • Modeling the effect of a building or ship’s superstructure wake on air vehicle landing operations.
